On May 20, Goertek, in collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., announced a new wireless AR smart glasses reference design based on the Snapdragon® XR2 platform, aiming to help OEMs and brand manufacturers bring AR products powered by Snapdragon XR2 to market more quickly.
Following the launch of its wired AR glasses reference design based on the Snapdragon® XR1 platform last year, Goertek’s latest AR glasses reference design supports a wide range of use cases, including office productivity, gaming and entertainment, task guidance, remote assistance, education, and simulation training.
Compared with the previous generation, the new AR smart glasses offer several significant improvements. The device can connect directly to smartphones or PCs via Wi-Fi 6/6E and Bluetooth, enabling a fully wireless experience. It adopts an upgraded ultra-lightweight freeform optical solution, reducing the thickness of the front frame by nearly 40%. A balanced weight distribution between the front and back of the glasses helps minimize pressure and enhances wearing comfort. In addition, Goertek has, for the first time, incorporated high-strength carbon fiber into the glasses’ temples, improving durability while allowing for a thinner design.
Goertek and Qualcomm Technologies began collaborating in the XR field in 2015. Leveraging the powerful computing capabilities of Snapdragon platforms, Goertek combines its expertise in acoustics, optics, sensors, advanced materials, and system integration to create cutting-edge VR/AR reference designs for the industry. Through these innovations, the company aims to accelerate the commercialization and widespread adoption of XR products.
